Foolscap and Alpha60 have combined forces on a stool that explores duality and the coming together of creative minds. Conceived as a celebration of partnership, the yin and yang, the design brings together Alpha60’s deep knowledge of textiles, binding and corsetry techniques from the fashion industry with Foolscap’s expertise in interior design, materiality and spatial thinking. The result is a piece that balances softness and structure, expressing the strength that emerges when two distinct disciplines intersect.

This stool presents as a compact, sculptural cube with tubular backrest made of aluminium. The base is countered with an overstuffed, quilted upholstery that wraps around the top and sides, creating a sense of softness and tactility. The upholstery is segmented into pillowy squares, giving it a padded, almost cloud-like appearance that contrasts with the clean architectural geometry beneath.

A defining feature is the exposed lacing that runs vertically along the sides, threaded in an acid green cord through metal eyelets. Referencing corsetry, it pulls the soft form inward while acting as an expressive seam, introducing tension and control to the otherwise relaxed cushioning.
