ALPHA60 PROFILE: BODY TYPE

Finally, after COVID delays the Sydney based band Body Type were able to release their long-awaited debut album ‘Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing’s Surprising’ in May last year. Since the album’s release they’ve been making waves in the Australian music scene and the ALPHA60 stores playlist rotations. The post-punk band is comprised of Sophie & Annabel on vocals and guitar, Cecil on drums and Georgia on vocals & bass. After a year of touring together around Australia with the Pixies, making The Guardian’s top 21 Australian albums of 2022 and finishing up recording their second LP we caught up with the ALPHA60 style devotees, Body Type.

Describe your sound?
Trash rock.

What inspires your music?
Each other.

Which song are you most proud about?
We wrote 'The Charm' after a run in with some industry bloke who told us 'The Charm' would wear off if we didn't get better at instruments and that we'd need to practise for 10,000 hours before writing any more songs. We channelled our collective frustration and wrote this response about how women are held to a higher standard in the music business.

Who would you say are some of the most influential people you have performed with? We've just finished touring around Australia with the Pixies! They've been hugely influential to us individually and as a band - it was a truly wild and surreal experience.

What has been a high point for the band?
We played the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. What the hell! A life bucket list moment.

We heard you attended the Dua Lipa concert in a limo - how was this?
The ‘Dua Limo’ to Dula Peep ruled hard. 100% recommend going to mega pop concerts in a stretch. Annabel had never been in a limo before, so it was extra special – we cracked some sparkles to celebrate/'levitate'.

Favourite ALPHA60 purchase?
Many moons ago when I was still living in Melbourne, I bought a forest green silk turtleneck dress with little squiggles on it. I can’t remember what it was called, but I still have it and it’s the best. Business, but casual. Cocktail, but chill.

If you could each be an animal what would it be and why?

Sophie: Lion: fierce, bold & beautiful

Annabel: Echidna – cute ‘n’ spiky

Georgia: Wild Horse – rides like the wind

Cecil: Dolphin – lives to laugh

How were the FBi SMAC Awards?
We had the best time! FBi have been huge supporters of us since the very beginning, so it was awesome to celebrate their incredible contribution to the Sydney music scene and be in the room with so many amazing artists.

FBi 4eva!

What's next for the band?
We have some national tours coming up (supporting friends + heroes) and somewhere in between we're going to finish recording LP #2!!
